Dismantling of the Georg-von-Neumayer Research Station in the Antarctic

After nearly 11 years of use the station had to be abandoned because of the changing shape of the ice shelf and the constantly increasing weight of snow. Trendelkamp was awarded the contract for dismantling the accommodation and laboratory containers built into two steel tubes with a length of 50, respectively 80 meters and a diameter of 8 m each. In the three summer months the material was taken in 34 containers to the edge of the ice shelf and then transported away by ship for disposal.

For the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Ocean Research Trendelkamp manufactured a sledge for transport of a fuel container with 15,000 litres contents. Furthermore a heavy-duty sledge with a carrying capacity of 30 metric tons was manufactured for transport of 10" and 20" containers.
