The Convertible Cruise Ship.
A Highly Engineered Retractable Roof for the Norwegian Bliss.
Trendelkamp designs and builds a unique retractable roof system for Meyer Werft to enhance the pool area on the top deck of the Norwergian Bliss, a cruise ship operated by Norwegian Cruise Lines.
The roof size is more than 100 m2 and can be controlled manually or via remote control. The welded steel construction was executed in accordance to EN 1090 and was precisely engineered to operate regardless of ship movement. Utilizing advanced engineering techniques, Trendelkamp designed the retractable roof system to take into account the resonance frequency requirements and strict water tight sealing guidelines. Meyer Werft was pleased with the Trendelkamp technology and workmanship that they subsequently placed another order for an additional system for one of their other cruise ships.
The Norwegian Bliss was built by Meyer Werft in Papaneburg, Germany. It is approx. 333 m (1.100 feet) in length and offers a capacity of up to 5.000 passengers.
