Helicopter Platform.

Strong, light with architectural appeal.

The challenge is enormous: to develop the most lightweight construction possible that can withstand the high loads of a helicopter landing.

The project was to design and build a helipad on the roof of Clemens Hospital in Munster, Germany. A nationwide competition was held in order to find the best solution. Trendelkamp won the contract to design, manufacture and install the helipad based on their design.

24-hour approach readiness.

Concept: In the attic of the 40-year-old building a steel sub-structure is built on which the helipad is placed. The helipad has an outer diameter of 31 meters and is surrounded by a peripheral web of 3 meter wide gratings combined with an additional 3 meter wide safety net surrounding the dock.

During the landing of a helicopter, a load of approximately 5 metric tons is applied to the pad. In order to prevent the helicopter from the sliding on the plate, certain protection features were implemented. The 24-hour approach readiness - in any weather - guarantees express transport to the hospital, thus ensuring rapid treatment of patients in emergencies.

During installation Trendelkamp used over 150 metric tons of steel. The helipad is designed and constructed in accordance with the applicable European Union directives.
